One drawback with this new policy is residents feeling they don't get their fair share of the limited number of tags. There are several reasons for this:
- The nonresident tag number is based off last year's number of nonresident hunters.
- The percentage of nonresident tags stays the same every year there is a cap.
Since 44% of the archery hunters in Diamond Creek last year were nonresidents, 44% of this year's tags must be reserved for nonresidents.
Residents feel giving nearly half of their state's tags to nonresidents is just too much to ask.
Disadvantage #2: Competition
The competition for tags will be fierce among residents this year. Resident tags go on sale August 1st, so residents will only have a month before the archery season begins to get their tags.
Nonresidents, however, can purchase their tags for months in advance of the season, so they don't face nearly the amount of competition residents will face starting in August.
Certified vendors may have problems with upset customers who didn't get their tags before they ran out.
